After 5 years of living in Sweden, I am returning to my home country of the USA. It will be interesting to see what kind of reverse culture shock I go through as no doubt my home country, state, and I have changed a lot in half a decade. If you want to know more about why I am leaving Sweden, check out my YouTube channel linked in my homepage.

Now starts the process of selling off my belongings here in Sweden, closing Swedish accounts and subscriptions, ending my apartment lease, and saying goodbye the nursing job I have had for the last 3 years at the local hospital.

Am I sad? I think I knew subconsciously that this change was coming. I fought it so hard. After going through all the stages of grieving, it feels right that I am returning the USA and I have learned to accept the situation. My dreams of what life in Sweden would be like did not come to fruition unfortunately and comparing my quality of life, physical health, and mental well-being as well as spiritual well-being, I see that life in the States was much better than I realized for my individual circumstances. So I am am actually very excited about the future and moving back.

Does this mean I do not recommend moving to Sweden? Not necessarily. What I can say is

Sweden is going through some things right now as are many countries around the world. My recommendation would be to let the dust settle for a couple years in Sweden and see where things land before making the move. The only exception is for EU citizens and people in a long term relationship with a Swedish citizen.

I will continue to assist other nurses who are still interested in making the move to Sweden.
